Should preschool education be made compulsory? Why?

January 5th, 2009

  • Pleaseeee... I have a big debate competition tomorrow and I need some opinions ASAP!!!!!

  • i think not...absolutely not. it would weaken the parent/child bond, for one thing. why should we parents bother having children at all if the government is just going to come and force us to give them over to strangers for several hours a day?
i think that compulsory preschool is just another way that the government is using education to get into our homes and take over our children--as early as possible.

isn't there a book about this very thing? i think it's called "the giver" by lois lowry...

    good luck in your debate

  • NOOOOOOO!!! Give the little kids a break, they spend so many years at school, so let them be free for as long as possible. Rules, rules, rules. They need space and running and fun when very young.

  • yes bcoz we should learn basic first

  • No. Children are forced to 'perform' way too early these days. My wish is that parents would take a more active role in their child's development instead of leaving it to total strangers. As a 25 year veteran of early education, I saw many, many children who were put into childcare or preschool just to be babysat.
